Station Design Competition

The BostonBRT Station Design Competition was a 2017 ideas competition that created opportunity to showcase creative, innovative, and inspiring modern designs for a critical part of the BRT system: The Station.

Covered stations are a core feature of the BRT experience. While in traditional bus systems riders wait at “stops” marked only by a sign and sometimes a bench, along BRT corridors riders are sheltered in weatherproof, brightly lit, and architecturally-considered stations.

Entrants ranging from architects to urban planners to designers to university students from around the world  submitted fantastic renderings bringing to life exciting new ideas for state-of-the-art BRT stations designed to create a sense of civic pride and deliver a world-class transit experience.

A panel made up of transportation, design, and civic leaders selected the winning entries. The entrants also shared their submissions on social media in a public voting process, greatly expanding the reach of the competition and generating helpful engagement around what BRT station features matter to the public. Winners were announced at the StreetTalks: Cities on the Move event, with a reception and panel discussion hosted by the LivableStreets Alliance.
