“Taking care of each other- and our local businesses- matters”

A BostonBRT Cares Initiative –– Making stronger connections between transit and the community it serves.

Local Business Matters

The first two initiatives of BRTCares (or From BostonBRT with Care), The Distance of Care and BRT Care Package initiatives in Everett focused on safety on public transportation and the need to clear the major hurdle of building public trust. The third initiative of the series, the “Love Your Neighborhood” contest further builds a sense of community and that taking care of each other- and our local businesses- matters

Central to most communities is food. Food establishments are suffering as we move into winter under COVID19.

The multi-dimensional campaign continues the BRTCares theme that transit is not separate but an essential part (the spine) of thriving neighborhoods and communities such as Everett. In this case, these initiatives consider context and challenges that affect a community and take action to alleviate those challenges. In many ways, the combined campaign redefines the connection between transit and community and what can be achieved with a truly integrated perspective and a new, creative lens on how to build awareness about transit goals within a community.

Ask The Community

The “Love Your Neighborhood” contest asked the community to send in their favorite places to eat and drink in Everett.

To promote the contest, images of local restaurants were featured for inspiration, but the focus was be on what the community shares with us.

In the process, we found and promoted the community’s favorite local eateries, locating the best places to eat. Food establishments got a much-needed boost to their income..

With so much diversity in Everett it’s hard to pick only 3. When it comes to baked good Bakes & Cakes has great options. There pan de queso and coxinha are the best. My go to Chinese restaurant is Dar Hee. Everything from there crab rangoon to there beef teriyaki is good. If you want pizza then Nanas Pizza is the way to go. A classic local shop that I love to support. #everettbrt

My top three are:

1. Andrea's Taqueria because they have the absolute BEST shrimp tacos! Loaded with shrimp, they don't skimp at all.

2. Jumbo House is great for American Chinese food. It's family run and they take excellent COVID precautions. I feel really safe picking up food there, and the family is super nice!

3. Santana's is my go-to for Brazilian treats, especially coxinhas! They have a wide selection of incredible food at an affordable price. ❤️❤️❤️

Oliveira's Steak Bar & Grill: great Brazilian food at decent price and a lively atmosphere right on Broadway accessible to public transit.

8/10 Bar & Grill: a longtime favorite to order or sit down in the hole in the wall restaurant on Norwood Street, steps from Broadway and its transportation options.

The Square Deli: Chris knows how to do it right, and keeps the best subs, soups, and specials coming right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Everett Square
